Bolton denied by Tom Elliott leveller for Wimbledon

Tom Elliott's 13th goal of the season proved unlucky for Bolton as his equaliser clinched a point for AFC Wimbledon in a 1-1 draw at the Macron Stadium.

Gary Madine, back after a two-game absence due to illness, headed home his ninth goal of the campaign after 14 minutes to put Wanderers in front.

The striker also netted when Bolton won 2-1 at the Kingsmeadow Stadium in August but Bolton's fine early-season form has deserted them in 2017 and they allowed the Londoners back into the game, as they did Bristol Rovers last Tuesday.

Dominic Poleon fired wide but it was no surprise when George Francomb lofted a right-wing cross to the back post and Elliott climbed highest to equalise six minutes from half-time.

Phil Parkinson has not heard many boos during his tenure as Wanderers manager but the home fans were not impressed by another tepid performance.

They roared their approval though as Filipe Morais curled in a 47th-minute free-kick which James Shea brilliantly tipped onto the crossbar. Shea denied Morais again and Josh Vela shot wide as Bolton improved.

The unmarked Jon Meades might have won it for Wimbledon though, but after beating the offside trap he could not head past recalled Bolton goalkeeper Ben Alnwick.
