Hope Akpan available for Blackburn's clash with Cardiff

Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray will have Hope Akpan available for the first time against Cardiff.

The midfielder has completed a four-match suspension so has had to watch on as Mowbray's side have taken seven points from his first three games in charge at Ewood Park.

Tommie Hoban (shoulder) was back on the bench against Wigan while fellow defender Elliott Ward (ankle) is training again and could make his comeback soon.

Midfielder Corry Evans is also in training but is likely to play for the development squad first having been troubled by an ongoing groin issue.

Cardiff midfielder Aron Gunnarsson is hoping to shake off illness after being withdrawn late on in Saturday's defeat at QPR.

Winger Anthony Pilkington is in contention for only his second start since January after stepping off the bench at Loftus Road.

Greg Halford and Joe Bennett are also pushing for recalls as the Bluebirds chase a fourth win in six league games.

Striker Rickie Lambert (back), Lee Peltier (ankle), Bruno Manga and Rhys Healey (both knee) remain long-term absentees.
