Sunderland are believed to be ready to offer £10m for Tottenham striker Peter Crouch, as they desperately seek a new target man.
The England international still has three years remaining on his current White Hart Lane deal, but reports suggest he could be willing to seek a new challenge.
Crouch, who cost £10m when joining from Portsmouth in 2009, almost joined the Black Cats two years ago but changed his mind and decided instead to move to Tottenham.
Steve Bruce is deperate to find a replacement for Darren Bent and someone who can strike up a partnership with Asamoah Gyan, who has looked the real deal since his £13m switch from Rennes.
Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn has previously admitted that the recruitment of a target man will be the club's priority this summer, with Bruce expected to be handed a transfer kitty of around £30m.
