Arsenal have been looking to add some depth to their defence and have been linked with a cornucopia of defenders and defensive midfielder over the past few months with the Espanyol striker Hector Moreno the subject of serious interest. Arsenal were strongly linked with picking up the player in January.

A report in the Metro claims that the defender has options with a move to Spurs also on the cards but the 27-year-old has set his heart on joining Arsenal. The Mexican joined Espanyol from AZ in 2011 where has become a consistent performer.

The centre back who is rated at £15million will ‘do anything’ to help the deal go through and become an Arsenal player by choice ready for the beginning of next season.

Moreno was selected by Mexico for the 2014 FIFA World Cup but in the round-of-16 match played against the Netherlands he suffered a fractured tibia after colliding with Arjen Robben. The injury was later reported to likely rule Moreno out for 6 months.

The defender returned to make 25 appearances in the 2014-15 season to date.
