Arsenal and Liverpool join race for 25million Real Madrid star

The Gunners have joined Liverpool in the pursuit of Manchester United target Fabio Coentrao, Real Madrid's £25million rated left-back.

Coentrao joined Real Madrid from Benfica for a reported £23.5million in 2011 but has failed to settle in Spain according to the Express, and is now deemed surplus to requirements at the Champions League holders, fuelling speculation of a January exit from the club.

Manchester United narrowly missed out on signing the 26-year-old during the summer of 2013 at the start of David Moyes ill fated tenure but their interest has since cooled after signing Luke Shaw. Arsene Wenger and Brendan Rodgers have since entered the market for Coentrao with both clubs in need of defensive reinforcements.

It is thought the Portuguese international would be open to a move to the Premier League but Italian giants AC Milan and Turkish outfit Besiktas are also interested in the player meaning both Premier League sides will have a fight on their hands in their bid to secure Coentrao's signature this winter.
