Lyle the hero for Queens

Derek Lyle hit an extra-time winner as Queen of the South moved into the second round of the Scottish League Cup following a dramatic 4-3 win at nine-man Annan.

Queens appeared to be heading out of the competition but Dale Hilson pounced in the third minute of injury time to force the additional 30 minutes.

Ryan Conroy had opened the scoring for the visitors three minutes before half-time, volleying into the top corner from 25 yards.

Smart Osadolor, having hit the crossbar in the first half, equalised in the 59th minute with a bullet header from six yards courtesy of Rabin Omar's delivery.

Omar's corner was then turned in at the near post by Peter Weatherson four minutes later before Lyle levelled within two minutes with a strike into the bottom corner.

Weatherson notched his second after 72 minutes, with Conroy seeing his effort hit a post before Hilson's late strike was followed by Lyle's scrambled clincher in the 100th minute after Steven Black was dismissed for a second booking seven minutes earlier.

Omar then followed Black for an early shower as he received a straight red card for a foul on Kyle Jacobs in the 119th minute.
