The agent of Borussia Dortmund playmaker Shinji Kagawa has revealed that his injury in the Asian Cup has prevented his client sealing a move away from the German Bundesliga club to Manchester United in the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old star flew back to Germany from Doha on Thursday after breaking a bone in his foot in Japan's penalty shoot-out victory over South Korea in the semi-finals.

Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson was reportedly looking for another attacking option during the January transfer window with Kagawa one of his prime targets, however the tragic injury has prevented any possible move taking place.

“We have not had any contact or an offer from Manchester United. Nobody has contacted me.” Thomas Kroth told Sport.co.uk.

“I think the problem is that he is injured now, and it is a big problem for him. He has an operation next week and he could be out for 4 or 5 months, so this is not the time to talk about a transfer. The main and only focus is his successful recovery.”

Kagawa has helped Dortmund to the top of the Bundeliga with the German giants reluctant to lose their top stars, warning clubs off the likes of Kagawa and Neven Subotic.
