The chief representatives for Ajax goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg have refused to respond to the rumours that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has registered his interest in the Holland international. quizzed the player’s representatives on the phone regarding the reports that Arsenal had officially registered their interest receiving the response:

“We are vey busy doing our jobs at the moment, and we have lots of requests for interviews, but it is not possible at this moment. We are really busy with our work and getting on with our business.”

Stekelenburg, 27, joined Ajax when he was 15-year-old from VV Schoten and has been at the club since establishing himself as the Dutch club’s number 1. The Ajax stopper also starred between the posts for the Dutch national team at the World Cup, however financial problems at the Amsterdam club have prompted officials to consider selling a number of their top players with Gregory Van der Wiel, Jan Vertonghen, and Luis Suarez linked with moves away from the Amsterdam Arena.

Arsene Wenger has reportedly registered his interest, with the Frenchman interested in signing a senior keeper at the Emirates stadium, giving Vito Mannone, Lukasz Fabianski and Wojciech Szczesny time to develop at the Emirates.

A report in the News of the World on Sunday suggested that an un-named English club were tracking the goalkeeper.

An Ajax insider told The News of the World: "I don't think Luis Suarez will leave us this summer but as for the others, there's a good chance one or two have to leave.

"I know there's an English club interested in the goalkeeper, for sure."
