Mayor leaves it late for Shakers

Danny Mayor's injury-time strike secured Bury a 1-0 victory away to AFC Wimbledon to extend their unbeaten run to five games.

Mayor struck in stoppage time after team-mate Jean-Louis Akpa-Akpro had already hit the crossbar as they eased their relegation worries further.

AFC Wimbledon had spurned plenty of chances to take lead with Danny Hylton the chief offender as he failed to find a way past Brian Jensen.

Hylton had an excellent chance to open the scoring in the first minute but his header from a George Francomb cross was saved well by Bury goalkeeper Jensen.

As the half progressed, Bury's influence on the game grew and they came close in the 36th minute when Daniel Nardiello saw his effort deflected wide for a corner.

Hylton headed wide early in the second half and wasted another chance when he was sent clear but failed to beat Jensen before Bury substitute Akpa-Akpro lobbed Ross Worner only to see his strike come back off the bar.

However, Mayor pounced at the death to slot the ball home and condemn AFC Wimbledon to a fourth straight defeat.
