Josh Windass nets brace but Morecambe hold Accrington to draw

Josh Windass scored a double but promotion-chasing Accrington were held to a 2-2 draw by Lancashire rivals Morecambe.

The 19th-placed Shrimps are enduring a torrid season but went ahead in the 11th minute through Shaun Miller.

The striker got the ball outside the area, dribbled into the box, evaded four tackles and fired into the far corner of the net for his 16th goal of the campaign.

Stanley equalised on 21 minutes after Seamus Conneely found Rangers-bound Windass who raced through and kept his composure to fire low into the bottom of the net.

Windass clipped the outside of the post on 27 minutes while Piero Mingoia's fierce shot was pushed out by Morecambe's loan goalkeeper Kieran O'Hara on 32 minutes.

However Stanley went ahead three minutes after the restart when Andy Parrish was judged to have pushed Billy Kee from a corner and Windass calmly slotted home the penalty for his 14th goal of the season.

Morecambe would not lie down though and after Brad Halliday failed to clear his lines, Tom Barkhuizen nipped in one-on-one and fired home the equaliser 11 minutes from time.

Tarique Fosu hit the post and Shay McCartan had an effort cleared off the line in the dying minutes as Stanley could not find the winner.
