Stanley sink Shrimps

Accrington celebrated a 2-1 victory over derby rivals Morecambe thanks to early goals from Luke Joyce and Shay McCartan.

It was a horror first half for the Shrimps on Halloween as Stanley went ahead within five minutes.

Winger John O'Sullivan was fouled by Alan Goodall as he went on a run in the area and captain Joyce fired home the penalty.

Stanley made it two after 11 minutes when McCartan got the ball off O'Sullivan and fired home from 15 yards via a slight deflection.

Scott Davies then kept out West Ham loan winger Sean Maguire's looping header and also tipped O'Sullivan's shot around the post.

Morecambe came out battling after the break and immediately an Alex Kenyon effort was tipped over by on-loan Fulham keeper Jesse Joronen, who was injured in the process and had to be stretchered off.

His replacement, Luke Simpson, could not get near Shaun Beeley's 51st-minute corner and Paul Mullin buried a free header to drag Morecambe back into the contest.

The Shrimps then pressed as they looked for the equaliser but Stanley still had the better chances with Davies denying Lee Molyneux and one-handedly tipping over Rob Atkinson's header.
