A time for change at West Bromwich Albion

27 May 2014 10:58

With the 2013/14 season over Manchester City fans are still celebrating, Fulham fans reminiscing their many years in top flight football and trying not to think of a season in the Championship and Sunderland fans screaming Gus Poyets name through the city it's all business as usual in the Midlands office of Jeremy Pearce. Or not, with the West Bromwich Albion fans showing their thoughts publicly, Albion having a abysmal but good enough season to stay in the Premier League, it seams realisation has hit Mr Pearce and with the clubs to-do list growing Pearce has publicly announced to the fans he is ready to listen, he is stepping forward and acting as he needs to do so to get the Baggies back to reaching their recent potential where they finished 8th in the 2012/13 season, their highest finish in the Barclays Premier League. He stated in an announcement to fans on their official website "the buck stops with me" with in detail meant he will not allow the club to make a last minute panic bid on players they don't want nor need. Last season Albion took on five loans Goran Popov, Scott Sinclair, Morgan Amalfitano, Matej Vydra, Boufuma Thievy of all only one ready shone and although Morgan Amalfitano's good season and rememberable goal against United at Old Trafford he returned home in France. Pearce insists the club are taking strategic steps towards ensuring they utilise all their transfer options and build on their current squad properly.

Already they have taken steps in the right direction by appointing former baggies First Team Coach and current Youth Team Coach for Arsenal Terry Burton (61) as Technical Director, he will take up his new post on 1st June and his first task is to find a successor for Pep Mel and with the likes of Malky Mackey, Chris Hughton and Tim Sherwood a few names linked to the job fans can be assured they will be gifted with great manager.

The Albion board have already taken steps in securing some of their experienced and top players by signing new contracts with the likes of club captain Chris Brunt, skilful midfielder Graham Dorrans and young defender Liam O'Neil to name a few. On the 20th of May the club announced the signing of midfield startled Craig Gardner on a free transfer from Premier League nabours Sunderland with 230 first team appearances and 30 goals for the Black Cats, Aston Villa and Birmingham City combined he is definitely regarded as a strong signing moving forward.

So. new manager, new players, new sponsorship to look for after Nicholas Anelka coursed Zoopla to pull out with his inverted Quenelle gesture earlier in the season, rumours of a 300 seater stadium expansion at the Hawthorns and probably one of the most exciting Barclays Premier League seasons arising Jeremy Pearce certainly has his hands full but as he stated on the clubs website "lessons have been learned" this writer can only expected that we will see a new West Brom next season and as a baggies fan I hope we can bring back the days of the 1950's and 60's where we were challenging clubs for top half finishes and cup titles.
