A not so Happy Birthday for Tottenham's Danny Rose

02 July 2014 01:06

Danny Rose is 24 today and it would be very fair to say that his future at Tottenham Hotspur is looking bleak. It seems almost a lifetime ago when his stunning strike against Arsenal on his premier league debut back in April of 2010 catapulted him into the hearts of many a spurs fan. His progress from that lofty start has been stuttered at best. Loans at several lower league clubs followed by a consistent showing at Sunderland raised hopes that the 2013/14 season would finally give the fullback a chance to cement his position as the clubs left back. Niggling injuries along with several high profile mistakes, notably against Arsenal in the FA Cup, have meant that new boss Mauricio Pochettino has highlighted the left back position as one that needs to be urgently addressed.

There is form with Pochettino bringing the best out of young English talent during his time at Southampton but transfer speculation suggests that perhaps the new incumbents mind is already settled on his future.

The seemingly impending arrival of young left back Ben Davies from Swansea City will give Rose a lot to think about in the coming weeks and may not of been the present he was expecting.
