meets...Miles Kane

comments caught up with soon-to-be-massive garage rocker Miles Kane in order to discuss his beloved Liverpool FC. In the process, Miles becomes the first interviewee to kick off the interview without even being asked a formal question….

So, Miles...

Great win on Saturday. Meireles’ goal was boss. He scored a cracker the other week as well, didn’t he?

Er, yes. Against Everton.

I’m dead good mates with Leighton Baines. He comes round and plays FIFA. He’s a lovely lad.

He’s got a pretty decent taste in music as well, if this is anything to go by.

That’s why we get on. He’s been to a few gigs and we started hanging out. He loves his music.

Back to Raul Meireles - do you think, given his form over the last few games, that Steven Gerrard should walk back into the side when he returns?

I don’t know. It’s tough because I don’t know where you could put him. He’s having it at the moment, Meireles, and if it ain’t broke…know what I mean? But then, you can’t really argue with Gerrard, can you? So it’s a tough one.

Were you amongst those who were desperate to see Kenny Dalglish replace Roy Hodgson?

I felt sorry for him. It must be harsh being a manager, with the press and that bigging you up after one win then knocking you down when you lose. But, saying that, it is better that he went.

Do you see Dalglish as a long-term option?

I hope so. It’s exciting but, with these things, you’ve just got to take it step by step. You can’t really plan it, can you? Just ride it and see what happens.

Who would you like to see come in if he didn’t take the job full time?

Probably Mourinho. But it’s all cool at the moment – just ride it, enjoy it and have a buzz while Dalglish is here.

Can you see Fernando Torres leaving at the end of the season?

I don’t think he will. I think he’s just been frustrated because he hasn’t been scoring. But it’s all about confidence and, now he’s got a couple [of goals, against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday] under his belt, he’ll be back and having it.

What do you think of the youngsters like Jay Spearing, Martin Kelly and Jonjo Shelvey?

Quite buzzed, actually. Spearing played in the derby, didn’t he? He’s a local lad as well and I’m all for that.

Tough-looking chap, too.

He’s solid, isn’t he! Kelly at right-back looks good as well. They should just keep giving them games or bits of games when they can, try and build it.

What with Kelly impressing, is there a case to be made for Glen Johnson to be given a run in a different position?

He’s good at going forward, Johnson. Maybe it would be creative to push him up on the wing, I don’t know. This is just like me on FIFA – doing my own tactics! Maybe I’m just in game world. Are you a FIFA man?

Still on an out-of-date version of Pro Evo. Been told to make the switch, though.

That’s what I’m saying: the switch has been made! FIFA’s so much better now. It always was Pro Evo but the last few FIFAs have been so much better and more like Pro Evo. It’s more realistic. You should make the switch, man. Come on, get with it!
