Frank Lampard looks certain to miss Saturday's Premier League summit meeting against Manchester United after his mother lost her fight against pneumonia. Lampard has missed his side's last two league games, but returned to action in midweek against Liverpool in the Champions League. Her health has since got worse and she finally passed away just ten days after being diagnosed with pneumonia.
"She follows me up and down the country so, knowing her, she would've had a right go at me for not playing this game," he said after Tuesday night's game. "So that was in the back of my mind."
Michael Essien, who was suspended in midweek, is likely to take his place.
