Briers hoping gossip puts Saints at Wolves' mercy

23 April 2008
Lee Briers is hoping the gossip at his old club St Helens will help Warrington Wolves when the two clash this Friday. On Tuesday St Helens appointed Catalans Dragons boss Mick Potter on a two year deal starting next season. And the former St Helens player is keeping his fingers crossed that all the talk upstairs about Daniel Anderson's replacement will distract the Saints squad.

He said: "I hope that will be happening, it would be good for us.

"But I very much doubt it somehow - in a way it is probably not for us to think about and if we take our eye of the ball then we are in for a very painful day out."

St Helens are two Super League spots above Warrington on points difference alone and events at the Halliwell Jones Stadium on Friday could define either club's season.

Briers is warning his teammates they need to up their game if they are to take on Anderson's squad - although morale in the squad has lifted thanks to the better weather according to stand-off.

He added: "If we give the Saints the ball as much as we have been doing recently it will be a tough match.

"One good thing though is the weather this week. The Aussies are loving this weather, they have their tops of in training all week but usually they have 20 layers on!

"Hopefully it will stay like this for a few more days so we can have some decent conditions to show what we can do a bit more."
