Valverde Back In Vuelta Andalucia Lead

Alejandro Valverde regained the lead of the Vuelta Andaluca with a second place.

Alberto Contador was the leader for this 11.9km time trial which starts and finishes in Lucena.

Kirill Sveshnikov of the Gaz Prom Rus Velo team set an early time to beat with Belgian champion Victor Campanaerts finishing in a time of 14.55 to take over the lead.

Tim Wellens of Lotto Soudal who has been in the attacks on the first two stages went into a provisional second place with a time of 15.15 before Fellini of Trek Segafredo went second with a time of 15.04.

At 16.30pm local time, race leader Alberto Contador of Trek Segafredo left the start house.

Jon Izagirre crashed out and was forced to abandon the race as Valverde, Pinot and Contador ate up the road.

Valverde finished in 14.56 to move into second place on the stage and putt he pressure on Contador with Pinot coming home in 15.04.

All eyes were on Contador and whether he could keep his lead in this race. Contador needed a time better than 15.02 and he came home in 15.03 meaning that Victor Campanaerts won the stage ahead of Valverde and Contador and Alejandro Valverde was back in the lead of the Vuelta Andalucia with a single second lead over Alberto Contador.
