A 168.5km stage from Ogden, with a trip around Pineview Reservoir three times before heading back into Ogden and then Eden before the road went uphill with the KOM climb on the North Ogden Divide before a climb of three thousand feet in six miles to the Powder Mountain Ski resort, saw eleven riders on the attack.

Jens Voigt of Trek Factory Racing was again in the break along with Reijnen, Zepuntke, Theuns, Acevedo, Megias, Davila, Phelan, De Luna, Tusveld and Vaccher until Voigt decided to go off on his own and was followed by Theuns.

They opened up a thirty second group over the chasing group and a 1.45 lead over the peloton which included race leader Jure Kocjan of Team Smart Stop.

The duo were eventually caught and a new fourteen rider group which again included Voigt, took over with fifty eight kilometres remaining.

Voigt, might be quitting cycling at the end of this season but he was not giving up in this race and he caught up to Louder and Eijssen along with Zoldi who went away before Voigt caught and passed him.

The German was caught on the final climb by Tom Danielson and Chris Horner of Lampre-Merida. Danielson started to gain ground on Horner and opened up a forty second lead with two kilometres to go.

And that was enough as the Garmin Sharp rider stormed away to take the stage in 4.18.53. The crowd on top of the mountain had to wait 57 seconds for BMC's Ben Herman's to finish along with Horner.

Jure Kocjan finished 24.49 after Danielson in 66th place and lost his jersey to Danielson who now leads by 57 seconds from Chris Horner.
