Geraint Thomas has said that he did not really expect to win the Volta ao Algarve race.
The Team Sky rider finished safely on the final stage to win the race by a margin of twenty seven seconds over World Champion Michael Kwiatkowski of Etixx Quick Step and said about his overall victory: "I did not really expect this.
"I took my chance on the second day and got a jersey and for the team two stages, it has been a really enjoyable week.
"I would like this to be a rocket for the big stage races but I am happy to get the win here and have a big month ahead with Paris-Nice and the classixcs.
"The form is building nicely and I am looking forward to the next few weeks."
