Amanda Spratt of Orica Scott has won the opening stage of the Women’s Tour Down Under.

Stage one of this four stage World Tour Women’s race was from Hahndorf to Meadows over a 106.5km course and saw Chloe Hosking of the Cippollini team take the sprint on the Mawson Road in Meadows after 26.1kms.

It was not until the peloton of seventeen teams and 102 riders had passed the forty-two kilometre mark that there was the first break and in it were Louisa Lobigs of HWC, Ellen Skerrit of the Rush Women’s team and Kate Perry of the Specialized team.

However, that break was soon brought back and at the half-way stage, the peloton were altogether with Orica Scott controlling the peloton as they went through the Hydration Station at Nangkita.

Amanda Spratt of Orica Scott took the day’s climb on Paris Creek Road and she managed to stay clear when the race reached Meadows to take the win twenty seconds ahead of Janneke Ensing of Cipollini and Katharine Hall of UHC.
