Paterski Wins Tour Of Croatia

Maciej Paterski of CCC Sprandl has won the Tour Of Croatia with victory on the fifth and final stage.

The final stage was a 174km stage from Sveti Martin to Zagreb. and eight riders were in the break.Kvasina, Henttala, Repse,Serov, Calleuw, Van der Hoorn, Albert Torres and João Gaspar took a lead of 1.30 after forty five kilometres on a day where speeds were around the 45kmh mark.

This group had got as far as four minutes clear but it was down to 1.15 with twenty three kilometres left and to twenty five seconds with less than fifteen kilometres left after some good work from the CCC Sprandl team, working for the race leader Maciej Paterski.

Into Zagreb and through tramlines and cobblestones , the front group split into two with Kvasina first over the line with two five kilometre laps to go on a very technical closing circuit with a cobbled climb at the finish.

The break was over so another group of four riders which this time included a CCC Sprandl rider which was just ahead of a group that included the race leader with five kilometres left.

The two groups joined with Grega Bole doing plenty of work for Paterski who was in fourth wheel with 1.2kms left.

Rutkiewicz took a turn in pushing the pace along and onto the final climb, it was Paterski who opened it up and won in 3.59.42 to seal the overall Tour Of Croatia victory with a minute and one second margin over second placed Primox Roglic.

Paterski also won the points and the King Of The Mountains jerseys.
