Orica GreenEdge's Cameron Meyer has won the Jayco Sun Herald Tour.

Cameron Meyer of Orica Green Edge went into the final 125km stage of three category one climbs and one sprint with a mountain finish on Arthurs Seat, in the lead.

Less than ten kilometres had gone when Nick Dougall (MTN - Qhubeka), Matthew Goss (MTN - Qhubeka), Tanner Putt (UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team), William Clarke (Drapac Professional Cycling), Samuel Spokes (Drapac Professional Cycling), Richard Handley (JLT Condor), Cameron Bayly (Search2retain-health.com.au Cycling Team), Jayden Copp (Charter Mason Giant Racing Team), Alexander Smyth (African Wildlife Safaris Cycling Team), Craig Evers (Data #3 Symantec Racing Team p/b Scody), Steele von Hoff (KordaMentha Australian Team), Gabriel Cullaigh (Great Britain National Team) and Christopher Lawless (Great Britain National Team) formed a break which got 1.37 clear.

it was down to 1.17 as Steel Von Hoff took the intermediate sprint but the lead group was starting to split when Cameron Bayly took the 24 points on offer for the first climb of Arthurs Seat.

The Search2retain rider became part of a five man break and he took the next climb to give himself the King Of The Mountains jersey.

The group were caught as they started on Arthurs seat for the third and final time and Lachlan Norris tried to get away but the race leader was on his tail along with Patrick Bevin of the Avanti team who got away to win in 2.54.38, just ahead of Cameron Meyer and his team-mate Simon Clarke.

That second place for Cameron Meyer was enough and he was crowned the 2015 Jayco Sun Herald Tour Winner.

A jubilant Meyer said to his team's press office: “That was just ridiculously fast. “I am relieved that it is over and happy to get the second (place). That’s a good effort on this hill and hats off to Bevin, he rode a great race and so did Avanti.

“But my boys were really good, I only had to do 200m (work) of the whole race.”

“I find a lot of satisfaction in this (win). “When I won Tour Down Under in 2011 it was out of my control. It came down to that last stage and Matt Goss was sprinting for seconds and if he had run top two I would have lost and there was nothing I could to.

“Where as this (race), it was an actual hill top finish and it was something that I could control… I really get a good satisfaction that I was able to be the strongest on the Bendigo stage and then second on Arthurs Seat to secure the win.”
