Jonas Ahlstrand of Giant Shimano has won the second stage of the Tour Of Alberta.

Tom Dumoulin of Giant Shimano had kept his lead going into this second 145.3km stage from Innisfail to Red Deer.

British rider Simon Yates was in the days break with Christian Wurf, Keil Reijnen, Stemper and Robin Carpenter.

They never had a lead of more than a minute and when Yates rode himself into the King Of The Mountains jersey when he took the ten points on the Red Deer River climb with 26 kilometres left, the escapers were only ten seconds clear.

King and Passeron caught up to the five escapers and they stayed away until the peloton caught up with them with 3.3 kilometres to go.

Garmin-Sharp sent a rider on the front but Theo Boss and Jonas Ahlstrand led the sprint out with Jonas Ahlstrand taking the win in 3.02.14 ahead of Bos and Zepuntke, who had won stage one.

Tom Dumoulin keeps his leaders yellow jersey with a nine second lead over Zepunkte.
