Gilbert Wins GP Pino Cerami

BMC's Philippe Gilbert has won the GP Pino Cerami in Belgium.

A 211.5km stage race from Tertre - Frameries saw eight riders in a strong field including Britsh team Team Wiggins, launch an early attack before a break which included Serry, De Bie, Vliegen, Teunissen, Daniel, Naesen, Eijssen, Ruijgh, M. Van der Poel, Lawless, De Vries, Bol,. Boonens, Gilbert, Broeckmans and Edward Theuns got eleven seconds clear before being brought back.

Mathieu Van der Poel of BKCP Powerplus, took the first four KOM's on La Houppe, Les Plachettes, Kappelmuur and Denderoordberg as forty leaders took a lead of 1.40.

With 39kms left, the forty one out front started on three closing laps with a lead of 2.09 on the first chasing group and 2.40 on the second chasing group.

There was twenty kilometres left when M. Van der Poel, Wallays, Serry, Eijssen and Duijn split from the front group and eight kilometres later they were twenty seconds clear and thirty two seconds going into the final five kilometres.

But, with seven hundred metres to go, the peloton were caught and BMC's Philippe Gilbert took the win in a bunch sprint in a time of 4.44.03.

Trek Factory's Danny Van Poppel was second with Wanty Group's Tom Devriendt third. Team Wiggins Chris Lawless was sixth.
