Froome Wins Vuelta a Andalucia

Chris Froome has won the 61st Vuelta a Andalucia Ruta Ciclista Del Sol in Southern Spain.

The fifth and final stage saw Chris Froome, who had taken the race lead with victory over stage three winner Alberton Contador, with an advantage of just two seconds going into a 170.9km stage from Montilla to Alhaurín de la Torre.

A break of Bilbao, Martin, Hoogerland, Torres, Jim, Paterski and Kudus, got clear, taking a 3.10 lead on the peloton but this group of seven fractured and only Kudus, Paterski and Hoogerland were left with a 37 second lead and thirty kilometres left to race.

Team Sky started to close in and only Paterski was left with 17.5kms to go and a lead of eighteen seconds.

Maciej Paterski of CCC Sprandi battled away but was caught with seven kilometres to go by the peloton.

Edward Theuns attacked but there was Juan José Lobato of Movistar, who got past him in the final three hundred metres to win in 3.38.04 ahead of John Degenkolb, Sylvain Chavanel, Grega Bole and Pim Ligthart.

Chris Froome finished sixth in the same time with Contador and took the race victory overall

There was more good news for Team Sky who also won the Team Classification.
