Ireland’s Ryan Mullen of Cannondale Drapac was an early fastest rider, setting a time of 21.59 which lasted until Mads Pedersen (Trek Segafredo) finished in 21.53 to move into the hot seat with Team Sky’s Lukasz Wisniowski going second with a time of 21.58.
British time trial champion Alex Dowsett finished in 22.40 as LottoNL-Jumbo’s Lars Boom finished in 21.35 to take over the lead of the race, a second ahead of FDJ’s Arnaud Demare.
Tony Martin has won this time-trial on 2011,2013 and 2015 and was again favourite and did not disappoint finishing in a time of 21.28.
However, Movistar’s Jonthan Castrovejo put in a superb ride to finish in 21.24 and win the stage before Primoz Roglic finished in 21.29 to put the Slovenian in the leader’s yellow jersey with Dan Martin finishing in 23.04.
