Team Sky's Chris Froome put in a superb ride to take the time trial on stage eighteen of the 103rd Tour De France.

A 17km time trial from Sallanches to Megève, the second shortest time trial in the tour since 1946, started without Fabian Cancellera and Shane Archibold who crashed on stage seventeen.

Nicolas Edet of Cofidis was one of the early riders to go fast and he finished in 32.37 to go into the provisional lead after being quickest at the Côte de Domancy (D199-D1212) first checkpoint after 6.5kms, the Combloux after ten kilometres and the Les Berthelets after 13.5kms before finishing in Megève.

That time was beaten by Nelson Olivera, Romain Sicard and Jerome Coppell who took the lead with a time 31.58 until Jon Izaguirre finished in 31.46.

Thomas De Gendt beat that time by a second but the stage favourite Tom Dumoulin was not far behind him and he finished in 31.04.29.

Astana's Fabio Arun finished eleven seconds down on Dumoulin's time as Chris Froome went down the ramp.

Adam Yates finished in 32.05 as Froome went quickest at the second time check and kept going to finish in a time of 30.43.23 and take the win.
