Alex Dowsett has set the new World Hour Record in Manchester.

The Movistar rider, who has also batted with severe haemophilia and who had to postpone his first attempt at breaking his collarbone, started with his attempt to try and beat Rohan Dennis's distance of 52.491 kilometres set in Switzerland on February 8th, at a good pace.

Dowsett, who was due to attempt this in London but switched it to Manchester which was more accommodating, covered thirty five laps in the opening ten minutes but was three seconds slower than Dennis's time after ten kilometres.

He was five seconds down on Dennis at the twenty kilometre mark and eight seconds down approaching the halfway stage.

Dowsett riding at 52.5kph started to reduce the margin. It was 6.32 seconds after thirty five kilometres.

On lap 179, Dowsett was ahead of schedule and the sell out crowd were loving it.

Dowsett was cheered on every lap and he kept up his pace with an average speed of 52.829, knowing that all he had to do was keep to his schedule and he would take the record.

The rider from Essex did that and smashed Rohan Dennis's record by 450 metres and a new distance of 52.937km.
