Wahab Riaz will cut short his stay at Essex in order to link up with Pakistan ahead of their Test series against England.

The left-arm paceman joined Essex ahead of the NatWest T20 Blast campaign and was slated to play the first seven matches, but he will miss the final two after being called up early to a training squad with his country.

Essex head coach Chris Silverwood said: "It is a shame Wahab's spell has been cut short. Obviously we understand that his international commitments come first and that is the risk you take when signing international quality players."

Riaz, who has played 15 Tests, 69 one-day and 20 Twenty20 internationals for Pakistan, has the option to return to Essex should they reach Finals Day.
