Peter Trego led the way with 79 as Somerset lifted themselves off the foot of the First Division table with an unlikely two-wicket LV= County Championship win over Nottinghamshire at Taunton.

The hosts reached their target of 401 just before lunch, despite Matt Carter completing match figures of 10 for 195 on his first class debut.

Trego and Jim Allenby (62) extended their sixth-wicket stand to 116 after Somerset had begun the final day on 274 for five, needing a further 127.

A cliffhanger developed, with Abdur Rehman finally clinching victory with three boundaries in four balls off Carter after Notts had claimed two more wickets.

Somerset took 20 points to Nottinghamshire's eight.

Elsewhere in Division One, Durham took two wickets after setting Sussex a mammoth chase of 514 at Arundel.

Beginning the day on 168 for six, Gordon Muchall made 115, Paul Coughlin added 64 and John Hastings registered 91 as Durham were eventually dismissed for 413.

Coughlin and Hastings then contributed with the ball, removing Michael Yardy (28) and Matt Machan (24) respectively to leave Sussex 400 runs from victory at 114 for two.

In Division Two, three late wickets handed Glamorgan some hope of victory in their match against Surrey at Guildford.

The home side were cruising at 273 for five with a lead of 242 thanks to Arun Harinath's (104) second century of the match while standing in for the injured Rory Burns.

But when Gary Wilson fell for 54, Gareth Batty and Tom Curran soon followed without troubling the scorers to leave Surrey with a lead of 245 and two wickets remaining going into the final day.
