Strauss takes up Middlesex role

Former Middlesex and England captain Andrew Strauss has joined the county's executive board with immediate effect, the Lord's-based club announced Monday.

The 37-year-old, who retired from all cricket in 2012, was one of England's most successful recent captains, leading the team to Ashes success at home in 2009 and in Australia in 2010/11.

Strauss replaces Paul Downton, the former Middlesex and England wicket-keeper who resigned from the board following his appointment as the managing director of England Cricket.

"We are absolutely thrilled that Andrew has accepted our invitation to join the Middlesex executive board," Middlesex chairman Ian Lovett said Monday.

"He is a Middlesex man through and through, with an outstanding reputation within the game.

"Finding the right man to replace Paul Downton was always going to prove a challenge; however in Andrew Strauss we've found the perfect solution."
