Stephen Parry signs new contract with Lancashire

Lancashire spinner Stephen Parry has signed a new contract at Emirates Old Trafford after helping the Red Rose win the NatWest T20 Blast this summer.

The 29-year-old claimed the joint-most wickets in the competition, along with team-mate James Faulkner, as Lancs ended their 16-year wait for a one-day trophy at Edgbaston in August.

He was dubbed "the best limited-overs spinner this country has got" in the aftermath by Lancashire's stand-in skipper Steven Croft and earned a recall to England's T20 squad for the games against Pakistan next month.

Parry has represented England on five occasions but had been out of the picture since March 2014 prior to this call-up.

"Stephen is a fantastic, international-quality bowler and is also a great person to have in the dressing room," Lancashire head coach Ashley Giles said.

"He's a person who embodies what it means to be a Lancashire player and his experience is of great benefit to the younger guys in the dressing room."

Parry, who made his first-class debut in 2007, added: " From the moment my dad first took me to watch Lancashire play, I've always loved the club and I am delighted to have signed this new contract.

"I've grown up with the likes of Tom (Smith), Crofty and Browny (Karl Brown), and to play alongside, and win trophies with, your team-mates is a great honour.

"Next season will hopefully be another great one for the club. No team has ever defended a T20 title and records are meant to be broken. It's an exciting time to be at the club."
