Sri Lanka level series with ease

Sri Lanka won the second Test against Pakistan by seven wickets as they chased down 153 with the minimum of fuss on the final day to level the series.

A collapse by the tourists on day four in Colombo had left Sri Lanka chasing the relatively modest target in Colombo and they got the required runs in just 26.3.

Dimuth Karunaratne top-scored with 50 and, while Kumar Sangakkara made a first-ball duck in his first innings since announcing he would be retiring later in the summer, the Lions had little trouble wrapping up the win.

Karunaratne and Kithuruwan Vithanage raced to a partnership of 49 but, after hitting two sixes off Zulfiqar Babar, the latter was gone off the last ball of the seventh over.

The opener went for a slog sweep but sent the ball high in the air and Mohammad Hafeez was on hand to take the catch at deep midwicket and send him back for 34 off 23 balls.

That brought Sangakkara to the crease but his exit was swift, gloving a Yasir Shah delivery onto his thigh pad and leaving an easy catch for Azhar Ali.

Karunaratne brought up his 50 from 55 balls but was gone two later as Shah got one to stay low and trapped him in front.

At that stage the score was 121 for three but captain Angelo Mathews (43 not out) and Lahiru Thirimanne (20 not out) saw the home side to victory to level the series heading to Kandy for the third and final Test.
