South Africa's top order among the runs on day one against New Zealand

South Africa enjoyed a fruitful first day of the second Test against New Zealand as their top four batsmen all passed fifty at SuperSport Park in Centurion.

Quinton de Kock, Stephen Cook, Hashim Amla and JP Duminy all made contributions as the hosts reached 283 for three after being put into bat by Blacks Caps skipper Kane Williamson.

Cook and De Kock put on 133 for the first wicket before the latter departed for 82 when he pulled a bouncer from Neil Wagner into the hands of Trent Boult at deep fine leg.

Cook had moved onto 56 but a lack of discipline brought about his downfall when he played at a ball he did not need to from Doug Bracewell, with a thick outside edge just carrying to Williamson in the gully and the dismissal was confirmed by the TV umpire.

Amla and Duminy then put on 95 for the third wicket and it took a very good delivery to split the pair up when Wagner got a ball to hold its line and a thin edge from Amla was gratefully held by BJ Watling behind the stumps to remove him for 58.

Duminy (67 not out) was then joined by Faf du Plessis (13no) out in the middle and the pair took the hosts through to the close with no further alarms.

The first match of the two-Test series finished in a draw after almost four days' play were washed out in Durban.
