Somerset spinners Jack Leach and Dom Bess have both signed new contracts at Taunton.

Left-arm orthodox Leach took 65 wickets as Somerset finished runners-up in the 2016 Specsavers County Championship, putting himself in the frame for England contention.

That promotion did not come his way when the squads to travel to Bangladesh were announced last week, but the 25-year-old's Somerset future is secure until at least the end of 2019.

Leach said: "I'm really happy to have signed a new contract with Somerset, - it's a really proud moment for me.

"I grew up watching Somerset from a very young age, so to sign this three-year contract is right up there with the proudest moments of my career so far. I love playing here and I wouldn't want to play anywhere else."

Off-spinner Bess has had a breakthrough summer too, at the age of just 19, including match figures of eight for 59 on his County Championship debut against Warwickshire at the start of this month. He has signed a new two-year deal.

The teenager said: "I'm really delighted to have signed for Somerset, and it's a dream come true for me to have taken 13 wickets in my first two games - both of which we won."
