LV= County Championship leaders Yorkshire moved into a commanding position after bowling out Warwickshire for just 69 on day two of the Division One match at Edgbaston.
The Bears resumed on 11 for two but were reduced to 37 for nine, losing five wickets for the addition of no runs as Ryan Sidebottom recorded figures of six for 34 from just 12 overs.
Jack Brooks conceded just 14 runs from his 11 overs while taking three wickets and, while Rikki Clarke's 28 provided some resistance, Steve Patterson removed him to end the innings.
That gave the Tykes a first-innings lead of 144 and that was extended to 269 by stumps as they reached 125 for one with Will Rhodes unbeaten on 53.
Peter Trego and James Hildreth produced an unbroken partnership of 140 as Somerset took a grip on an absorbing match with Sussex at Taunton.
Having bowled their visitors out for 208 on a second day in which 14 overs were lost to two rain breaks, the hosts plunged to 36 for four on a pitch offering seam movement and some turn.
But Trego (71 not out) and Hildreth (63no) then changed the course of the match, batting with increasing confidence as the skies cleared for the final session and taking the total to 176 for four at the close, just 32 behind.
Half centuries from Brendan Taylor and Steven Mullaney kept Nottinghamshire in the game on the second day of their game against Middlesex at Trent Bridge.
Although Middlesex had the better of their hosts for much of the day, Taylor's 77 and Mullaney's unbeaten 56 left Nottinghamshire 194 runs behind Middlesex with six first-innings wickets in tact.
It was day one at New Road where Worcestershire reached 228 for five in the relegation battle against Hampshire.
Daryl Mitchell's timely 105 not out - initially moulded in a partnership of 142 with teenager Joe Clarke - saw the home side recover after losing three wickets in 12 balls from Jackson Bird on a first day shortened by rain before lunch and bad light in the afternoon.
In Division Two, Liam Dawson took two wickets for Essex on a rain-affected first day of their match against leaders Lancashire.
Only 25.4 overs were possible at Old Trafford, but Dawson seized the opportunity to make a good impression in his first game since his month-long loan from Hampshire was agreed.
Introduced into the attack in the 18th over of Lancashire's first innings, the slow left-armer had Alviro Petersen leg before for 14 with his third ball and then bowled Ashwell Prince for 21 with the first ball after lunch
That left Lancashire on 92 for four, but the home side added only four more runs before the rain which had threatened for most of the morning set in and play was called off for the day half an hour after it returned at 4.45.
Kent will be looking to wrap up victory when they resume against Leicestershire on Tuesday.
Darren Stevens hit 63 as the visitors made 210 for a first-innings lead of 51 and then reduced Leicestershire to 110 for nine at the close with Stevens, Matt Coles and Calum Haggett taking three wickets apiece on day two.
In the day's remaining game, Colin Ingram was 73 not out as Glamorgan reached 167 for three on the opening day of their game against Derbyshire.
