Scotland fighting the clock

Scotland face a fight against the clock if they are to finish off Afghanistan in their rain-delayed the Intercontinental Cup fixture at Stirling.

Having lost the first day and a half to a washout, there was more frustration on Thursday as the umpires were forced to delay play until just before 3pm while the outfield dried out.

The Scots resumed on 227 for eight but added just six more runs before tailenders Alasdair Evans and Safyaan Sharif fell.

Afghanistan's response got off to a nightmare start as Javed Ahmadi was trapped lbw by Evans for just two runs and things did not improve much from there.

South Africa-born left-arm seamer Con de Lange marked his first Scotland cap by taking two wickets with his first two balls as he took care of Mohammad Nabi and Mirwais Ashraf.

But with the tourists set to resume on 96 for eight on Friday, the Scots will have it all do with an innings each still to be squeezed in on the final day.
