Scotland lost their one-off Twenty20 International against an Amjad Javed-inspired United Arab Emirates by nine runs in Dubai on Thursday.

Home captain Javed struck five sixes and five fours in scoring 76 off just 42 balls - the next-best contribution from a UAE player being 16 - as the hosts made 148 for eight after winning the toss.

Scotland paceman Safyaan Sharif took four for 24, including the wicket of Javed in the final over, but not before the 35-year-old all-rounder had powered his side to what would prove to be a winning total.

Visiting skipper Preston Mommsen sought to emulate his counterpart as he made 56 in reply, but when he fell in the penultimate over Scotland's hopes were all but gone.

Scotland were left needing 12 off the final six balls, bowled by man of the match Javed (two for 19), but they could only manage two singles to finish short on 139 for nine.
