Kent have announced Sam Northeast will replace Rob Key as their new captain for the 2016 season.

Northeast took charge of the side for the majority of the recently-concluded campaign while Key was absent from the first team, flourishing in the role by making more than 2,000 runs across all three formats.

The 25-year-old said: "It's a great honour to become club captain of a team I've supported from a young age and follow in the footsteps of some great captains.

"Hopefully the future is bright for Kent and I can help bring some silverware back to the club.

"I would like to congratulate Keysy on an excellent job as captain and am sure he will have a large input going forward."

Key, 36, had led Kent for nine of the past 10 seasons, with James Tredwell in charge in 2013.
