Rogers reveals Test retirement plan

This summer's Ashes is set to be Chris Rogers' last Test series.

Veteran opener Rogers had to wait to establish himself in Test cricket, for what has therefore been a brief - but successful - career.

After his debut in 2008, the left-hander did not play his second Test until the 2013 Ashes.

Australia lost that series, but famously trounced England 5-0 in the 2013-14 Ashes rematch, and Rogers is hoping he can make it two out of three before bowing out in August - just before his 38th birthday.

He told Fox Sports: "I think to go out in the Ashes - and in England, where I've played a lot of cricket, is pretty fitting.

"There's a trip to Bangladesh (in October) - so I don't think I'll make that one."

It appeared for several years that a fulfilling Test career might have passed Rogers by - until his prolific form in county and Sheffield Shield cricket finally persuaded the selectors otherwise.

He added: "I'm very happy and very fortunate to have this second go at it, and I've loved every moment of it.

"But time calls on everyone, and I think it's nearly up for me."

After 20 Tests to date, Rogers has scored 1,535 runs at an average of almost 40.

He has made three Ashes centuries, with his highest score of 119 coming in his native Sydney as Australia completed their whitewash of England two winters ago.
