Power cut means Keaton Jennings' parents miss him reaching England debut century

Keaton Jennings' parents, eagerly watching their son make his England debut on TV, missed seeing him complete his sensational century due to a power cut.

The Durham batsman, who joined England in India this week as a replacement for the injured Haseeb Hameed, hit 112 on his first day in senior international cricket, making him the 19th England player to hit a hundred on Test debut.

Jennings' parents were watching while on holiday in Mauritius, a holiday Keaton was meant to be joining them on before his England call-up last week, until an hour-long power cut came when the 24-year-old was on 96.

Ray Jennings, the South African former wicketkeeper-batsman who was his son's first coach, told ESPN Cricinfo: "It came back on when he was on 111 and then he scored one more run and he was out."

The electricity outage meant Ray and his wife missed seeing their son, who scored 1,548 County Championship runs this year, go to three figures with a bold reverse-sweep.

Ray added: "My family have sent me some videos of the shot that got him to the hundred."

Keaton Jennings played for South Africa Under-19s but completed a four-year residency period while playing for Durham, making him eligible to represent England.
