England will be up against a familiar opponent again this summer, after Pakistan announced Mickey Arthur will be their new coach.

Former South Africa and Australia coach Arthur has taken on England many times in his former guises, most recently at the 2013 Champions Trophy in this country - shortly before his sacking in the weeks approaching that summer's Ashes.

The Pakistan Cricket Board revealed the 47-year-old is to take over from Waqar Younis in time for their team's tour of England - which begins in July.

A board statement read: "It is expected that Mickey Arthur will be able to join the PCB toward the end of this month . he has confirmed his acceptance of the post of head coach of the Pakistan national cricket team."

Arthur had a successful stint in charge of his native South Africa between 2005 and 2010, helping them to world number one in the International Cricket Council rankings.

Arthur's South Africa drew a hard-fought series at home to England 1-1 in 2009/10.

His appointment by Pakistan follows a process in which former England coach Peter Moores and Australian Stuart Law were both, among others, linked with the position.
