Neil Wagner orchestrates Zimbabwe collapse on day one

Neil Wagner took six for 41 as New Zealand bowled out Zimbabwe for 164 to take control on day one of the first Test in Bulawayo.

It could have been worse for the hosts but for a ninth-wicket stand of 85 from debutant Prince Masvaure and unbeaten tail-ender Donald Tiripano.

After Tim Southee dismissed Zimbabwean opener Brian Chari with the second ball, Wagner and Mitchell Santner (two for 16) ripped through the home side's top order, taking the wickets of Chamu Chibhabha, Hamilton Masakadza and Sean Williams for the addition of just one run to leave them at 36 for four.

As the collapse continued to 72 for eight, they were facing the humiliation of a first-innings score under 100 until the intervention of Masvaure (42) and Tiripano (49 not out).

Their partnership lasted almost three hours before Masvaure was trapped lbw by Southee (two for 28), and the innings was over shortly afterwards as Wagner dismissed Michael Chinouya for one.

The tourists produced a steady start in response with Martin Guptill (14no) and Tom Latham (16no) leaving them on 32 without loss after 10 overs at stumps.
