Middlesex have re-signed Australia batsman Adam Voges for two spells this summer.

The 36-year-old enjoyed profitable short stays at Lord's in 2013 and 2015, averaging 55.60 across the two stints and helping secure international selection late in his career.

Voges will be available from the start of the season until early June and, following an expected period away with his country, will return in mid-August.

Managing director of cricket Angus Fraser said: "Adam's return is something we are all delighted with. He may not have spent a huge amount of time with us but he has made an extremely positive impression. "

Voges will captain Middlesex in the County Championship while James Franklin and Dawid Malan will assume the limited-overs captaincy after Eoin Morgan, England's white-ball skipper, stood down from the role at county level.

Malan, who has scored 2,260 runs in 92 Twenty20 appearances for Middlesex, will lead them in the NatWest T20 Blast and said: "I consider it a great honour.

"Since winning the Twenty20 trophy back in 2008, as a team we have struggled with consistency in this format. With the exciting squad we now have here at Middlesex however, combined with the signing of some quality, experienced overseas players, we'll be looking to change our fortunes in the competition this year."

Franklin will captain the Royal London One-Day Cup side, having deputised as skipper in all formats last season.

He said: "I am honoured and excited to be named as captain of our 50-over side. We are desperate as a playing group to show that we can compete strongly in this format."

Fraser added: "Dawid is at a stage in his career where he is ready to take on greater responsibility. He is an extremely good T20 player and has a lot of experience. He is keen to lead and I want to encourage that.

"James was outstanding for us last season. His experience and character were invaluable. He helped the club out in a couple of tricky situations and ensured there was a calm, disciplined and positive air around the squad."
