Man-of-the-match Sam Billings 'took inspiration' from Jos Buttler in England win

Sam Billings stepped into Jos Buttler's shoes and delivered a similar show as England kicked off their Twenty20 series against Pakistan with a 14-run win.

England fielded an experimental side with Buttler - who clubbed his country's fastest ODI hundred against the same opposition last week - rested.

Billings replaced him with the gloves but also with some middle-order power as he smacked a match-winning 53.

"I loved it, the first game of the tour for myself and it's nice to make a contribution to a winning performance," Billings said at the post-match presentation.

"It's been a theme to back ourselves. It's one of those, you try and take your opportunity when you get it and I took inspiration from Jos Buttler the other day."

Captain Eoin Morgan added: "We were pretty chilled. We have a group of guys who produced a strong performance with a lot of character.

"We made 160 and then defended it against a good side. For Sam to play like that at such an age is a really good sign for us.

"The fact that people like him are chomping at the bit is a really good sign."
