Liam Livingstone leads from the front as Lancashire beat Somerset

Lancashire skittled Division One rivals Somerset for 130 on the fourth evening at Old Trafford to claim their first win of the Specsavers County Championship season.

Having been bowled out for just 109 on day one, it was a significant turnaround from the Red Rose, who move up to second in the table at this early stage of the campaign.

The hosts owed plenty to their stand-in skipper Liam Livingstone, who top-scored with 68 in the first innings then made a career-best 168 in the second.

Lancashire, having drawn their first two games of the campaign, lost their last three wickets for 40 to finish 463 all out, setting the visitors a notional target of 295.

Only Marcus Trescothick (36) and James Hildreth (43) provided any meaningful resistance as Ryan McLaren, with four wickets, and Jordan Clark, with three, pushed for the line.

Yorkshire captain Gary Ballance continued to plague Hampshire, batting all day for 203 not out en route to a draw.

Ballance scored 120 against the same opponents in the first match of the season, followed by 108 in the first innings at the Ageas Bowl.

This time he was unbeaten in an eight-hour rearguard, having started day four on 78. The hosts managed only three wickets in 71 overs as Yorkshire reached 399 for six, shaking hands as soon as Ballance reached his double ton.

Warwickshire also held on for a draw against Surrey at Edgbaston, having lost their opening pair of fixtures by an innings.

Former England stalwart Ian Bell, who has struggled for form in the early skirmishes of the season, made 99 before being undone by Gareth Batty with a 52nd first-class hundred within touching distance.

The Bears added 273 for the loss of four wickets on the day, wicketkeeper Tim Ambrose adding 85 and Keith Barker unbeaten on 70 as they closed on 435 for eight.

In-form Brown Caps seamer Tom Curran took three scalps to finish with four for 112 before the teams called it a day.

Bad light denied Middlesex the chance to seal victory against Essex at Lord's.

Essex were 160 for eight when the players were forced off, with the visitors having survived for 74 overs having been set a notional target of 452.

Toby Roland-Jones had taken three wickets as Middlesex pushed for victory but last season's champions were forced to settle for a second straight draw to start the season.

In Division Two, the two teams who started the campaign with negative points totals both remained winless.

Durham, who were deducted 48 points as part of their punishment for accepting a financial bailout from the ECB, drew at Gloucestershire.

The hosts started the day with a lead of 59 with seven wickets in hand and they eventually set their opponents 205 in 31 overs, with opener Chris Dent completing a century.

Durham lost four wickets before the teams shook hands, with England batsman Keaton Jennings unbeaten on 30.

Leicestershire's draw with Glamorgan earned the Foxes a 12-point haul which left them in positive figures having started on minus 16 following repeated disciplinary offences.

Mark Pettini scored 110 not out as Leicestershire declared on 360 for six, setting a target of 355 in 57 overs.

But Aneurin Donald's unbeaten 66 quashed any hopes of a first Leicestershire win and a draw was settled on with Glamorgan 144 for four.
