James Vince's poor form continues with duck for Hampshire at Somerset

James Vince's poor form continued back on the domestic circuit as the England batsman was removed for a duck in Hampshire's Specsavers County Championship encounter with Somerset.

The 25-year-old struggled in the four-Test series with Pakistan earlier this summer, averaging less than 23, and he was left out of the one-day series which begins on Wednesday after similarly modest returns in that format against Sri Lanka.

Any hope he had of rediscovering his touch for Hampshire evaporated when his middle stump was taken by Jack Leach, one of three victims the Somerset bowler claimed en route to three for 77.

By the close of play on the first day, Hampshire had reached 281 for six thanks in large part to Sean Ervine's century.

Title-chasing Yorkshire fought back on the first day of their clash with struggling Nottinghamshire thanks to wicketkeeper Andy Hodd's unbeaten 96.

The White Rose county had slumped to 51 for six on the first day in Scarborough when Hodd came to the crease to begin a restoration project with Azeem Rafiq.

The pair put on 132 for the seventh wicket and Hodd was then involved in another fruitful alliance alongside Jack Brooks, who eventually fell for 48 having played a significant part in a 88-run ninth-wicket stand.

Last man in Ryan Sidebottom was then removed without score, leaving Hodd stranded four runs short of a ton and Yorkshire all out for 282.

The reigning champions' bowlers removed Steven Mullaney and Tom Moores early in Notts' reply, ensuring they will resume on 38 for two on Wednesday.

Jeetan Patel's spin proved too much for Durham's tail as the Warwickshire bowler removed the latter half of the hosts' order to claim five for 32 in restricting the hosts at Chester-le-Street to just 207.

Warwickshire did lose one wicket before close, Varun Chopra nicking behind off Chris Rushworth, and they still trail by 182 runs.

Surrey's Sam Curran returned four for 61, while elder brother Tom Curran chipped in with a pair of wickets, as Lancashire were dismissed for 287 before the hosts moved to 50 without loss at stumps.

Three days after becoming NatWest T20 Blast champions, Northamptonshire piled on the runs in their return to the four-day arena against Worcestershire in Division Two.

Rob Keogh led the way with 154 of their 345 for six, while Steven Crook remains at the crease needing 16 more to reach three figures himself.

Sussex are well placed to surpass Glamorgan's first-innings total of 252 having reached 111 for one by the end of the first day.

Glamorgan only partially recovered from slipping to 56 for five and a 111-run opening stand between Chris Nash and Ed Joyce ensured Sussex did not suffer from a similarly poor start, although Joyce went for 47 late in the day

Dieter Klein claimed two late wickets as Essex stuttered to 13 for two in reply to Leicestershire's 238 all out, with Jamie Porter's four for 50 doing much of the damage.

Elsewhere, Kent debutant Hardus Viljoen completed his five-wicket haul, which came at a cost of 55 runs, with the final ball of the day to remove Gloucestershire for 221.
