Graham Gooch to work with Warwickshire

Graham Gooch has been taken on by Warwickshire as batting consultant, rekindling partnerships with England batsmen Ian Bell and Jonathan Trott.

Gooch, 62, until recently England's most prolific Test batsman, has already had several one-to-one sessions with Warwickshire players. He will return to Edgbaston throughout this season to work in his new role.

Last summer former England captain Gooch's 8,900 Test runs were surpassed by Alastair Cook, whom Gooch worked closely with including as England batting coach from March 2012 to May 2014. In that role Gooch also helped Bell, who is hoping to break back into the England team, and Trott, who has since retired from international cricket.

Warwickshire director of cricket Dougie Brown said: "Graham is a very impressive bloke whose record speaks for itself and for our guys to get advice from somebody like him is pretty powerful.

"Our England guys know him well and how he works and are all really pleased that he is involved. He sets incredibly high standards.

"His job isn't to change people in any dramatic way but just to offer advice. He talks a very straightforward game and we think it will pay huge rewards."
