England captain Eoin Morgan: We must continue to test ourselves

Eoin Morgan's England are under captain's orders to carry all their white-ball adventure of the past six months into the Twenty20 series against Pakistan.

Since being unceremoniously knocked out early in last year's World Cup, England have been a revelation - with a new breed of attacking personnel - in one-day international series against New Zealand, Australia and their hosts here in the United Arab Emirates.

Only World Cup winners Australia managed to sneak a series win against them, and England have also won their last three Twenty20 matches - stretching back to India at Edgbaston more than a year ago.

The sprint format comes into rare focus, with an ICC World Twenty20 looming in India in March, and Morgan believes three matches in five days against Pakistan - starting at the Dubai International Stadium on Thursday - will begin to fine-tune their preparation.

He said: "Our strategy is quite simple - to continue testing ourselves, our ability, regardless of any situation we play.

"We are trying to test our boundaries and capabilities as players.

"We don't know what our boundaries are at the moment, so it's important to keep pushing them as far as we can."

England have ripped up the template which got them nowhere in Australia and New Zealand last winter, and Morgan added: "I think our progress since the start of the summer has been outstanding.

"We continue to push our boundaries, and the opposition, at every stage of the game.

"We've never taken a negative step, a backward step, since we've come together as a squad.

"As long as that continues, and we're really honest with ourselves and learn along the way, it will hold us in good stead for the Twenty20 World Cup."

Jos Buttler's record-breaking 46-ball century in Dubai last Friday followed maiden ODI hundreds for openers Alex Hales and Jason Roy on this trip - and Morgan anticipates much more to come.

"I'm really excited, and I think we have a lot more to offer.

"We're going to come up against similar challenges (to the ODIs) but are obviously going to have to be a lot more aggressive."
