A maiden first-class century for Jack Leaning helped Yorkshire claim a slender first-innings advantage on day three of their LV= County Championship Division One clash with Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.

The 21-year-old notched 116, including 12 fours and a six, as the defending champions posted 441 all out in reply to the hosts' 428 to establish a lead of 13.

Nottinghamshire then ran into difficulties at the start of their second innings, limping to stumps on 74 for three, putting them 61 runs ahead overall.

Hampshire could be set for their first win of the season after Sean Ervine struck a century against Warwickshire at Edgbaston.

The away side set their opponents a victory target of 379 with a second-innings total of 339 all out, in which Ervine contributed a fine 102 and Michael Carberry 81.

Warwickshire subsequently made a solid start to their second innings, closing on 47 without loss.

Worcestershire, requiring 247 to win, also finished the day on 47 without loss in their match against Sussex at Hove.

With spinners Sachithra Senanayake and Alexei Kervezee taking seven wickets between them, the hosts had earlier been bowled out for 290, Ed Joyce top-scoring with 82.

In Division Two, Essex wrapped up a winning start to their campaign as skipper James Foster led them to a five-wicket triumph over Kent at Chelmsford.

The home side, beginning the day on 66 for three and chasing a victory target of 193, swiftly lost Dan Lawrence to the bowling of Mitchl Claydon (three for 55) without the overnight tally being boosted.

But Foster then came to the crease and struck 80 not out to drive his side to 193 for five shortly after lunch.

Lancashire left their hosts Derbyshire needing a second-innings total of 365 to win after a record-breaking 10th-wicket stand of 100 between Alex Davies (89) and Kyle Jarvis (17 not out).

Ashwell Prince (97) and Steven Croft (70) had earlier dug the visitors, who made 345 overall, out of trouble with a fifth-wicket partnership of 159.

Tom Taylor shone for Derbyshire as he returned a career-best six for 61, but they were struggling at the close on 27 for two.

Meanwhile, Glamorgan avoided the follow-on at home against Surrey as Craig Meschede's maiden first-class century (101 not out) helped the Welsh outfit reach 419 all out in reply to their opponents' massive 563 for seven declared.
