The BBC has secured a four-year deal to show cricket World Cup highlights on its website.

The deal covers all major International Cricket Council (ICC) tournament going through to the 2019 World Cup, which is being played in England and Wales.

The BBC will be able to show video clips of up to six minutes per hour of play as well as close-of-play round-ups and previews.

It also covers the World Twenty20, Champions Trophy, women's World Cup, under-19 World Cup and the women's World Twenty20 tournaments.

The announcement is welcome news to the BBC, which has been forced into major money-saving measures surrounding sports rights which has seen it drop coverage of motor racing's Formula One and share its coverage of rugby union's Six Nations.

Barbara Slater, director of BBC Sport, said: "We're very pleased to announce this new agreement with the ICC, which is all about free-to-air accessibility and bringing the best of cricket to as wide an audience as possible across the UK."
